Chef’s Handyman, Puffed Rice Squares

Simple and easy treats are perfect when baking with children. The sweet chocolate squares are made without cooking or baking. So, children can learn to make a cake by their own.  They will have fun, especially when topping the pieces with different chocolate flavors or decoration material. The crispy bites are also very welcome by adults. They can be stored in boxes for 2-3 days.

Crispy Puffed Rice Squares

To make the squares, heat and melt chocolate in a bain-marie.

Meanwhile, prepare a 7 to 8-inch tin with plastic foil. Place the puffed rice in a large bowl. Add coconut or agave syrup and the half portion of the melted chocolate (vegan or non-vegan). Combine all ingredients. Spoon the puffed rice mixture into the prepared tin. Decorate with the remaining chocolate and the blueberry granola. Place the tin in the fridge allow to rest for 2 hours. Take the tin out and cut the puff rice cake into squares.

Chef’s Handyman tip: Any chocolate can be used. To give a fruity taste, add chocolate with berries or oranges.

Shopping list for approx. 16 to 20 crispy squares: 150 g or 5 oz. puffed rice, 200 g or 7 oz. chocolate (vegan or non-vegan), 50 g or 1.5 oz. plant based, coconut or almond butter, 4-5 tbsp. agave or coconut syrup, blueberry granola.
